Bellew v Usyk
|
Can't wait for the fight tomorrow, over the years I've gone from dislike, to respect, to genuinely quite liking Bellew. Might be a Scouse but he wears his heart on his sleeve and has passion, would love to see him win but just doesn't seem possible, they're big boys though and it only takes one punch....from what I've seen of Usyk (youth footage really) he does looks incredible and moving forward, he is probably the biggest threat to Joshua...

Steve Bunce called this fight almost right except for how many rounds Bellew would last. He predicted no early fireworks, Bellew putting up a creditable show and inexorably being overwhelmed by Usyk. Exactly what happened.
As for the sportsmanship that’s down to two things, Usyk has class and let’s his performance speak for itself and Bellew was grateful to Usyk for turning up and giving him a beating for a couple of milllon £s.

Gutted for Bellew, genuinely gutted. But the better man one and the sportsmanship at the end showed the measure of the man. Very likable pair.

Bellew started really well but I don’t think he was ever going to win that fight. Usyk just soaked up the early pressure without ever really being troubled, wore Bellew down and then finished him. He seems like a classy bloke.

losing too much speed, not too much power...

Deano - I kind of thought that too but Whyte was 18.6 stone vs Joseph Parker (Parker was 17.4). That's a lot of extra power to be hit by compared to the cruiserweight limit of 14.9 stone.
I guess it depends on how much weight Usyk can put on without losing too much power and what his punch resistance is like against the really big guys.

I think he would beat Whyte fairly easily. Joshua is getting better with his feet with every fight, that coupled with his punching power makes him almost untouchable in the heavyweight division, looking forward to the Fury / Wilder match in a few weeks - from watching Furys comeback fights I would imagine Wilder will win, but have never actually watched a Wilder fight so will be interesting to see him in action.

Great fight, not sure on the tactics from Bellew - first few round he looked fantastic, but was never going to keep it up till the end, was completely knackered by the 8th and if he hadn't have been kicked out at that point, there was only one winner either way. Almost felt a bit like West Ham going toe to toe with Man City for the first 30mins before losing focus/getting tired and getting walloped...as things stand though, as great a boxer as Usyk is, Joshua would knock him out.

Thsat said, he is roughly the same size as Dillian Whyte so that could be an interesting fight.

Usyk is a superb fighter - not sure that he is big enough to trouble the elite heavyweights though.
Joshua at his lightest is almost 3 stone heavier than Usyk is tonight and so Usyk will have no chance of backing up Joshua/Fury/Wilder in the same way he did Bellew.
Usyk had a 10cm longer reach than Bellew at 198cm but that is still 10cm shorter than Joshua, 12cm shorter than Wilder and 17cm shorter than Fury.
The fights will be fun, but the size difference is too great in the heavyweights. Usyk is exactly the same height and reach as Haye and although he is a much better boxer, the big guys in heavyweight are monsters nowadays.

Bellew didn’t know what year it was let alone what round. He is seriously concussed repeating himself and all sorts, plus his wife is fucking hideous.
Usyk is class and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the step up to heavyweight, great sportsmanship from him to and appears a very likeable fighter. His interpreter was definitely not conveying the questions to him well thought.
